I love to work in black and white film and paper. It makes me work on composition, lighting, shadows and contrast. Most of my strongest images have dramatic shadows and a full range of tone. I also like to bring out the texture of a subject, like the oyster on the beach. Black and white fiber based glossy paper gives me the full range of tone and contrast. I tone the prints in a very dilute selenium solution for archival preservation and wash with an archival washer. I do this to have my prints last as long as possible.
This is only a small sample of my black and white work. Infrared film is interesting to try. You need to experiment in your settings, bracket over and under, and hope that you get the images. It does interesting things to skies, leaves, and skin tones. It is expensive, but is a different way to see as a photographer. Remember to use a dark red filter.
Please look at my Technical Information page for further information on my images and my printing.
