Custom Photography in black and white and color

Latest news:

I attended the Joe McNally Lighting Workshop in Dobbs Ferry, NY on January 19, 2009. I have put up some of the photographs from the workshop. Thanks Joe for the wonderful day, instruction, and encouragement. Portraits were never my thing, but this is a real help.

The art and craft of photography. Where both traditional and digital photography make great images. We specialize in local landscapes, fall foliage, and black and white fine prints. The beauty of the Hudson Valley gives us many opportunities to practice our craft.

The above image is of the Hudson River from Constitution Marsh, looking North, on a cold December morning. The water had a quick freeze of thin ice, which created a great pattern, and the early light illuminated the reeds. The Hudson Highlands are to the north, with the cut of the old Storm King Highway on the left mountain.

After years of traditional black and white wet darkroom work, we are moving to digital capture and printing. With the newer ditigal cameras the quality of the images and post capture workflow editing can get as much, if not more, information from a shot. We use an Epson Professional Inkjet printer, and are enjoying matching papers and prints, just like in a tradtional darkroom. The papers and inks allow even a broader range of choices. The paper now reminds us of the older fiber based wet prints we love so much.

We have photographs of the Northeast, including New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, and other New England locations in the Color Gallery. We also have some images of the West, including the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Many black and white photographs focus on nature and the environment.
